Menfolk Journeys

16. Tom and Finding Myself Again

Chris Foster

When we discover our true, authentic selves, it's usually in childhood. Let's say we're about 5 or 6 years old, and we're aware enough of people, we're beginning to form our own identity, but we're not saddled with the expectations from friends or parents, or bounded by societal norms.

Sometimes, we keep to that core self, but more often, boys and men are careened off-track because of situations outside of their control...and need to find a way back.

This is a conversation about getting back to the best part of ourselves, even though it took decades to do just that. But the beautiful part of life is that, in some ways, it's never too late.

The upward spiral we create can happen at any time of life.
